Your Highest Calling is . . .

12 Sep

Not being successful in your job,

Not being a mother,

Not being a father,

Not seeking pleasure,

Not being liked by everyone,

Not the pursuit of your hobbies,

Not staying in shape,

Not having well-behaved children,

Not being a pastor or being on staff at a church,

Not being able to defend your favorite doctrinal position,

Not maintaining the church culture you have always enjoyed,

Not having a pretty flower garden,

Not being able to name everybody on the 53 man roster of your favorite NFL team,

Not trying to right all the wrongs of the world,

Not to have all the right political views and expertly demolish “the other guys”,

Not to have a good marriage,

Not to live in ease,

Your highest calling is to fix your eyes on Jesus.

Hebrews 12:1-3  “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  2  looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.  3  Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.”

May our identity be found in Christ.
